Our Pre-K team follows the Pre-K Guidelines delegated by the Texas Education Agency for all subjects. Our district curriculum for all subjects is aligned with Frog Street Press Curriculum and we use their thematic units and joyful learning approach for reading, language arts, math, and science. The Frog Street Curriculum supports every aspect of children’s development – physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and linguistic.
In Language Arts, our students will be able to develop phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, and vocabulary. Children will be able to understand the functions of writing and develop comprehension by retelling stories in their own words. Children will engage in pre-reading activities to spark and motivate them to read.
In Math, our students will be able to develop number concepts, read and write numbers 0-20, rote count to 30, classify and sort objects, recognize 2D shapes, recognize attributes of objects, learn to use calendar, understand concepts of addition and subtraction, graph, and measure.
Through the Frog Street Curriculum children are given the opportunity to integrate Science and Social Studies in other subjects. In Science, our students will learn about characteristics of organisms, life cycles of animals and plants, changes in weather, the seasons, and basic needs of animals and plants. In Social Studies, our children will learn about their community and state, good citizenship, local and holidays around the world, as well as key social skills through our social emotional learning component.
We are able to integrate technology with Chromebooks and expose children to technology skills. Children are able to use Chromebooks regularly and access learning apps such as More Starfall, Frog Street, and other learning games.
Our district goal is to maintain our highly qualified Pre-K status and for all our Pre-K students to be Kindergarten ready.
