Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten team follows the Texas Essential Knowledge Skills (TEKS) for all subject areas.  Our district curriculum for all core subjects is TEKS Resource System.  We use the Balanced Literacy approach for reading/ language arts.  The District goal is for all Kindergarten students to fluently read a Level D reader (Fountas & Pinnell) by the end of the year.  

In Language Arts, students will… develop oral language skills, recognize and write their first and last name, recognize and know the letters of the alphabet and their sounds, blend sounds to read and write words, use temporary and conventional spelling to write simple sentences, recognize rhyming words, recognize, read, and write sight words, listen to and respond to questions about stories read aloud.    

In Math, students will… develop number concepts, read and write numbers 0-20, rote count to 100, classify and sort objects, graph, and measure, compare, contrast, and estimate, work on problem solving, learn to use a calendar, name coins and their values, recognize 2D and 3D shapes, and understand concepts of addition and subtraction to 10.

In Science and Social Studies students will... learn about being a good citizen, observe and record the environment, study health, self care, and basic needs of plants and animals, appreciate diversity in our world, and study systems.  We learn and explore through various component mediums connected to different thematic units.

We integrate Computer Technology into all subjects.  Our primary programs for technology include Dream Box, Reading A-Z, BrainPop Jr., United Streaming, and Starfall.
